HIGHS & LOWS CHOIR
It's lots of fun! The fall is a great time to try us out, as we are just starting to learn new music together. And you get free vocal instruction. Over the years in our annual survey, most people report that coming to choir helps improve their mood and increases their self confidence.
The choir is free, has no auditions and reading music is not required, in fact most of our members don't read music. We do not judge voice quality. Members are free to sing soprano, alto or tenor or bass. Most members end up choosing to perform, but it is in no way a requirement. And laughter is plentiful at each rehearsal.
The choir meets 11 months of the year (August is our month off), and we take a week off between Christmas and New Year's. The choir performs during this holiday season, and our other performances usually take place between April and the end of July. In anticipation of this we begin learning new music in September and again in January. In July things are quite laid back we try new things, relax, and have fun. We sing all kinds of music, including folk, jazz, and classical.
Our musical director and conductor is Earle Peach. Our accompanist is Elaine Joe. Alaric Posie is our assistant manager. He also makes use of his musical background to conduct us from time to time, and gives instructional classes after most rehearsals to help those who want to learn to read music or work on their ear-training skills. Our music librarian is Dale Sweet.
We meet every Tuesday from noon to 1:45pm at Douglas Park Community Centre, 801 W, 22nd Ave (between Cambie and Oak) in Vancouver. If you'd like more information or if you are interested in joining, please contact Ans (pronounced ahn-ss) at 604-482-3744.
In harmony,
Kevin Elwell
Manager
