LOCO MOTION
Loco Motion is an entertainment performance company dedicated to the promotion of healing, self knowledge and empowerment for people affected by mental illness and associated challenges. We are creating an original performance work to raise public awareness of the challenges of living with mental health issues. Our goal is to educate and reduce public misconceptions about mental health care and people who live with mental illness. We also promote wellness and growth for the individuals participating in the project.
We are thrilled to announce our exciting new original theatrical play, “Bug Lights.”The play creatively explores the world of psychiatric challenges and recovery rooted in the lived experiences of Loco Motion members. The basic premise of play was conceived by Norman Dawson. Playwright Mary F. Sousa then adapted the piece into a script, that has been further developed through a series of writing and acting workshops.
“Bug Lights” takes place in the world of light, shadow, darkness and spirit. We invite the audience to enter this modern fable and explore the realms of contemporary myth, magic and psychology with us.
Performances will be held March 29, 30, and 31, 2012 at 8 pm at the HEC Paetzold Centre in the Jim Pattison Pavilion of the Vancouver General Hospital, 899 West 12th Avenue, Vancouver.
Admission is free of charge. Loco Motion would like to thank the VCMHS Consumer Initiative Fund Program for funding the project.
