Last year, VCH Acute, Urgent & Tertiary in Vancouver adopted guidelines that ask hiring and other committees as well as educational initiatives to involve clients and families as much as possible. In connection with this, I am always looking for more people with lived experience to join in our work. (A big part of my job is to ensure the client and family voice is heard throughout the system.) Below is one of the opportunities.
UBC Day Program Committee
Type of Opportunity: Working Group
Date/Time: Every second Thursday from 9:30-10:30, for now until the end of May 2018
Location: UBC or via teleconference
Lead Department: UBC Psychiatry
Area: VCH Wide
UBC Psychiatry is piloting a Transitional Day Psychiatric Day Program. Items that will be discussed will be activity planning, interior design and program planning for the new program.
The committee has already recruited a family member and would now like to recruit a former patient/client to be a part of the working group. It would be ideal if you had experience working collaboratively and also lived experience in the last 5 years as a patient receiving psychiatric services from VCH (not necessarily at UBC) for a significant mental illness.
We particularly welcome people who identify as part of an underrepresented population (e.g. First Nations, visible minorities, people with disabilities, people who identify as LGBTQ+)
If you are interested in being a part of this working group please email firstname.lastname@example.org
