Peer Facilitated Workshops

Vancouver Coastal Health offers several Peer Facilitated Workshops with a focus on mental health, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery.

Participants can include: people with lived experience and addiction issues, staff of VCH, clients of VCH, people with lived experience not connected to a mental health team and supporters and family members.

Many still wonder if it’s possible for those of us who experience mental illness or mental health issues to develop and accomplish our own goals, reconnect with ourselves and others and recapture meaning and purpose in our lives. We are here to say: YES!
Your Recovery Journey’ (YRJ) is based on the experiences of people with lived experience of mental illness/mental health issues, who know there is hope, who live in recovery and who plan, manage and lead full lives .
This NO-COST program, offered by Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Mental Health and Addictions, was first developed in 2009 by the Schizophrenia Society of Canada and is now open to all. YRJ offers a personal workbook and five weekly 90-minute group sessions facilitated by mental health peers.
Learn more about starting or continuing Your Recovery Journey in a relaxed and welcoming environment, where we’ll share information, peer knowledge and experience, support, local resources and ideas.

2. Quality of Life
3. Self-Management
4. Medication as a Tool for Recovery

This is a peer led, drop in support group for people who hear voices, see visions or have other unusual sensory experiences. It is based on the International Hearing Voices Network. An ongoing support group open to anyone who has a diagnosis of a mental illness or addiction, or families and supporters. The group meets every 2nd Sunday of the month at 1725 Venables Street by Commercial Drive at the Kettle Friendship Society. The support group uses principles of support, emotional stages of recovery and problem solving skills from the BRIDGES course material. Call 604 708 5274 for more details

WRAP™ was developed for people who have experienced mental health issues but it can be helpful to anyone who wants to improve their wellbeing. Topics include:
• Wellness Tools: Ways we can stay well
• Daily Maintenance Planning: Things we need to do to keep well
• Triggers: Events that makes us feel worse
• Crisis Planning: A plan to take care of ourselves
