A facilitated Dialogue on MAiD hosted by CMHA North and West Vancouver branch

Sent on behalf of Canadian Mental Health Association North and West Vancouver Branch

Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) for people whose sole medical condition is mental illness is set to become legal in Canada on March 17th 2023. As a mental health organization it is important to understand the legislation and its impacts.

CMHA North and West Vancouver branch is partnering with CMHA National to host a 90 minute info/dialogue session on December 14th at 1 pm. CMHA National’s Director of Public Policy, Sarah Kennell, will go over these changes to MAiD legislation which will be followed by a facilitated dialogue about key concerns such as challenges with access to supports to live well (e.g. timely treatment, access to adequate disability benefits), criteria for MAiD eligibility, stigma and bias and suggested safeguards (age, who can recommend).
