The Spring 2020 Application process is now open.
Now that there are more distance, virtual and phone methods of accessing courses and online leisure activities (e.g. yoga via Zoom) we have extended the deadline for the Education and Leisure fund until Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
The extended deadline is: Thursday, October 15, 2020.
Funds for the current fiscal year must be used by February 28, 2021, or the bursary will be forfeit.
This project provides funding of up to $400.00 to mental health consumers for education and leisure courses or activities. Recipients can take more than one course/activity if the cost is less than $400.00 and must be willing to pay the difference if the cost exceeds $400.00. The fund does not cover the equipment costs (e.g.: skates, instruments, books, etc).
Individuals are eligible to receive funding once every three years. Applicants must be a resident of Vancouver and be receiving mental health and/or addiction services in Vancouver.
The Education and Leisure Fund is open two times a year. Applications are randomly selected in a draw done at the Consumer Initiative Fund offices.
Personal development, life style enhancement, vocational training, education and well-being are key components of recovery. The goal of this fund is to provide opportunities for individuals to take courses they would not otherwise be able to access and to build capacity. Some of the courses we funded this Winter were yoga classes, music lessons, art classes, educational courses, and acting classes.
