Modelled after Augusto Boal’s “Theatre of the Oppressed,” Theatre for Living (formerly known as Headlines Theatre) addresses social issues using theatre, and encourages community dialogue by engaging community members in an interactive theatre style called Forum Theatre.
We are remounting our 2013 production maladjusted for a BC/Alberta tour across 26 communities, finishing with 9 shows in Vancouver! Created and performed by patients and caregivers, maladjusted explores the mechanization of the mental health system. The first half of the play presents the effects of a mechanized mental health system, and the second half of the play invites audience members to engage with the subject matter, giving people the chance to discuss community-based issues and solutions. The goal is to create a discussion about how changes in the system can lead to more human-centered care.
