Welcome to our page for Mental Illness Awareness Week!  (MIAW)

MIAW week is the first full week in October, and this year runs from October 5 through October 11, 2014.

This week features a lot of organizations reaching out to the public in general to increase awareness of mental illness.

The main page for MIAW is located at:

This week we will have several people posting articles each day.

As I am first, I thought I’d start with some self assessments to see if you have symptoms of a mental health issue.

Self Assessment

The first link I’m sharing is to a general self assessment tool supplied by Psychology Today.

It is a series of questions that can help give you a general idea of what you may be experiencing.  Read each question and the supplied answers carefully.

Here is the link to the self assessment:

Once you have completed the Psychology Today self assessment the results can give you and idea of what you may be experiencing mental health wise.  For more specific assessments on each type of mental health diagnosis go to:

This link is a series of tests by diagnosis to see how intense the symptoms you are experiencing are.

Neither of these assessment tools is a substitute for a doctor’s advice.  Should you score high, or have a concern – always consult a doctor, starting with a family doctor or general practitioner for advice.
