Peer Harm Reduction Leader Contract Opportunities

Part time contract with Robert & Lily Lee Family  CHC (1669 E Broadway) and Three Bridges CHC (1128 Hornby Street)  Harm Reduction Team

~ minimum 10 hours per month, 6 months contract (possibility of extension)

Job Description: Under the supervision of the Peer Programs Coordinator and Robert & Lily Lee Harm Reduction Coordinator, the Peer Harm Reduction Leader will provide harm reduction services to people in Grandview-Woodland,Mount Pleasant and/ or Downtown neighbouring areas in order to promote health and well-being.

Major duties include: distribution of harm reduction equipment, co-facilitating Take Home Naloxone trainings, providing information on safer using and safer sex, providing referrals to other services, acquiring new skills or linking with community resources and attending monthly Peer Harm Reduction Leader meetings. Applicant will have experience communicating about harm reduction and collaborating with peers and service providers.

Qualifications and requirements:  The successful individual will:

  1. Fully covid 19 vaccinated
  2. Self-identify as a person who uses illicit substances and/or works in the sex trade (current or former)
  3. Non-judgmental to the diverse populations accessing harm reduction services
  4. Strong communication skills
  5. Ability to work independently and de-escalate and manage conflict
  6. Commitment to harm reduction principles and procedures
  7. Knowledge of services and resources in neighbourhood
  8. Demonstrates reasonable stability and responsibility 
  9. Ability to access public transportation
  10. Demonstrates empathy, patience and support

Duration of this contract:  6 months, with potential to renew
You are not required to work at the team or unit where you receive service

Pay and Hours:  $16.00 an hour, up to 35 hours maximum a month (including meetings)
Criminal Record Check will be conducted by the Ministry of Justice
