Perfect is Boring:
Photo Contest Celebrates Beauty in Imperfections
Vancouver, BC – July 22, 2013 – The Provincial Eating Disorders Awareness (PEDAW) campaign invites amateur photographers to participate in a Province-wide photo contest.
PEDAW is searching for photos that capture the campaign’s subtheme, Perfect is Boring, and showcase the beauty of imperfections. All photos will be displayed on the Love Our Bodies, Love Ourselves blog.
Amy Pezzente, Coordinator for PEDAW said via email: “I’m so excited for this contest! I think it has the potential to challenge perfectionism and the standards of real beauty. I love that the contest is held during the Summer when days are longer, people are traveling, and the sun is shining. I truly believe that there is no such thing as ‘perfect,’ and with this contest we hope you can realize it too. Perfect is boring!”
The top three winners will receive official Love our Bodies, Love Ourselves wristbands and Perfect is Boring t-shirts. Deadline for submissions is August 31.
PEDAW is a BC Province wide effort to raise awareness around prevention and early intervention of eating disorders as well as media literacy, resiliency, building healthy body image and self-esteem. Our mission is to provide an eating disorder prevention approach and resiliency based system of services, workshops, education, and support to people of all ages in BC. The initiative is led by Jessie’s Legacy Eating Disorders Prevention Program at Family Services of the North Shore in collaboration with Kelty Mental Health Resource Centre, Looking Glass Foundation, St. Paul ’s Specialized Adult Eating Disorder Program, BC Children’s Hospital Eating Disorders Program, and Healthy Minds, Healthy Campuses. PEDAW is launched the first full week in February with activities and events taking place throughout the year.
