Recovery College Peer Advisory Committee
Call for Applicants
Application deadline: June 14th, 2021 at 4 pm
Join a new Peer Advisory Committee for a research project – 8 advisors will be selected
Who: adults who represent a broad cross-section of people with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues.
The Recovery College Research Project is about planning, implementing, and evaluating two Recovery College pilot sites — one with Vancouver Coastal Health’s Consumer Initiatives Program and one with the Canadian Mental Health Association’s Vancouver-Fraser and North and West Vancouver’s Peer Navigator Programs. A Recovery College is a unique learning centre where people with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues; such as peers, family members, and mental health professionals use their knowledge and experience to work collaboratively and on equal terms to co-develop and co-deliver courses on a range of topics that support well-being and recovery.
Where advisors fit in:
The Recovery College Pilot project has people with lived or living experience of mental health and substance use issues (PWLE) as part of the overall project steering committee, engaged as research assistants, and as program educators. Now we are forming a Peer Advisory Committee to also hear from folks who will be interested in attending Recovery College courses, in particular people with lived/living experience of mental health and/or substance use issues. Peer advisors will be consulted at different phases of the research, involved in specific decisions, and will collaborate on how the information gathered will be shared.
Time commitment*:3.5 HOURS/MONTH via video conference & email
- The Peer Advisory Committee will meet either Thursdays or Fridays for 2 hrs once a month (aiming for mid-month).
- Some consultation may occur by email between formal meetings.
- Applicants must be prepared to attend the first meeting via zoom on July 16th, 1-3 pm
*Due to pandemic restrictions, most of the work will be done virtually. Access to/competence using a computer is required.
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to brief Interviews the week of June 21- June 25, 2021. Interviews will be by Zoom.
