Title: Peer Facilitator-Mental Health First Aid
Location: Vancouver, with expectation of travel throughout Lower Mainland
Classification: Independent Contractor
Pay: $18 per hour
Starting Date: December 4th, 2017
Reports to: THRIVE Coordinator
Hours: Varied, depending on needs, up to 20-40 hrs per month maximum\
Job Summary:
As part of an innovative team of Peer Facilitators, you will be responsible for providing instruction of the Mental Health First Aid Curriculum in various community settings. (Training the trainer in MHFA will be provided to successful candidates who meet the minimum qualifications).
Because participants in an MHFA course will have questions and experiences that go beyond the core content of the course, it is essential that our instructors have the background, skills, and attitudes that will allow them to be effective in their role and inspire confidence in their groups. The following are the essential criteria for being considered as an MHFA instructor:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Have personal experience with a mental health condition\
  • Good public speaking skills
  • Work experience in the field of mental health and mental illness (2 years minimum preferred)
  • Good knowledge of mental disorders and their treatment
  • Experience delivering training/teaching effectively to adult learners
  • Experience in networking with community partners
  • Knowledge of the range of mental health services
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Positive attitudes towards people with mental health problems
  • Enthusiasm to reduce stigma/discrimination associated with mental illness
