What’s your story?

I am always amazed by the stories shared with us.

Many are heartbreaking – a family losing a son and brother to suicide; a mom trying to get help for her daughter, only to be turned away; a co-worker facing mental illness feeling shamed, alone and hopeless. It is these stories that fuel my conviction that much work needs to be done and we still have a long way to go.

But at the same time, I hear many stories of courage, of hope, of recovery and of thankfulness. I encounter people every day who are compassionate, selfless and driven towards a better tomorrow – our volunteers, supporters, friends.

At Partners for Mental Health, we believe in the power of a story – its ability to inspire us, to enlighten us, to connect us through shared experiences and to incite action. These stories have incredible power to make change happen.

In support of Mental Health Week (May 5-11), l encourage you to take a moment to read someone’s story<http://partnersformh.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cafb73aed8b0bf31f73a08363&id=89378d564c&e=4683c5d348> and then share your own story<http://partnersformh.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=cafb73aed8b0bf31f73a08363&id=186c295ac8&e=4683c5d348>.

Let’s take this opportunity to listen, voice, learn, reflect and share our experiences with mental health and mental illness – each of us can take a role in helping to change the story of mental health in Canada.

Thank you,

Jeff Moat
