Update on Peer Support Worker Training – as of October 27th, 2022
We hope to offer Peer Support Training again in 2023. To sign up for updates when we are accepting applications and for other information related to peer work and mental health/substance use, you can sign up for our email list at the bottom right of this page (scroll to the bottom and enter your contact information).
Updates will also be posted on this page once they are available.
We usually receive more applications than we can interview/accept. We encourage interested applicants to prepare for the application and training process by working on their own recovery journeys, communication skills, and gaining experiences of supporting other people.
Some opportunities to prepare for Peer Support Worker Training include:
SMART Recovery support groups and trainings: SMART Recovery – Self-Management and Recovery Training – Vancouver Coastal Health (vch.ca)
Vancouver Coastal Health Volunteer Program especially roles involving recreation, fitness, mental health/substance use, and supporting other people with working on their personal goals.
Other Peer Support Worker Trainings include:
Coast Mental Health: Information about their Peer Support Program can be found at https://www.coastmentalhealth.com/what-we-do/pillar-services/ and they can be reached at 604-764-2145.
A free peer support worker curriculum is also available at www.peerconnectbc.ca. This curriculum was funded by the B.C. Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions with the guidance of working peer support workers and other folks with lived experience. Completion of this curriculum will be a pre-requisite of acceptance to the training program.
